A People's Messiah
Have you sung the Messiah before?
This is your opportunity to join in with singers and instrumentalists from the many Australian states gathered in Brisbane during Conference. Please come along for a feast of singing and praise to our God. Handel’s Messiah is not only great music but it is also inspiring.
Be inspired! Bring your copy of Messiah (or look on!), bring your voice, bring a friend and be a part of this exciting and relaxed performance on the Easter Monday of Conference.
As this will form part of our Conference preaching effort, members of the public will be invited to join us.
Q&A
Do I have to register?
Yes, we would prefer to know who is coming for logistical reasons. To be placed on the contact register for further news please email the conductor (see contact details below).
From which edition of Messiah are you singing?
The preference is for the Prout, but given it’s a people’s Messiah, we’ll accept any edition. However, an official “style guide” will be provided on this page well beforehand – eg. all bar numbering will need to be consistent.
Are there any rehearsals?
There will be, God willing, five weekly Thursday evening rehearsals Aug 20 to Sep 17 2009 at the Brisbane Ecclesia hall on Petrie Terrace. Following that the plan is to have a few Sunday afternoon rehearsals in Brisbane during February and March 2010. More details will be provided closer to the event. Watch this space!
Do I have to get dressed up or wear a uniform?
Definitely not. However we would hope that most people can come dressed “smart casual”. All singers will be sitting in their parts in the tiered audience seating, so the only one looking at you will be the conductor!
Some of the choruses are very hard and the solos very long. Are we doing them all?
No. A few choruses will be omitted and some of the longer solos will be truncated or used in a multi-media presentaion. You can find the complete list here – real soon now. You can even order a CD with your part emphasised so you can practice at home.
Does it cost anything?
Absolutely free of cost – well, the CD will set you back $2! All we ask for is your enthusiasm and attention to the conductor’s beat!
What if I have any more questions?
Please feel free to contact the conductor Peter Collins C/o People’s Messiah 2010, 489 Mt Gravatt-Capalaba Rd, Wishart 4122 or email Peter using the form below.
