47th Australian Christadelphian Conference | 3-11 April 2010

Many Members - One Hope
Many Members One Hope

Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. (Romans 12:4-6)

Position statement

During consultation with ecclesias in South East Queensland and interstate, brothers and sisters have suggested that it would be helpful if statements on fellowship, presenters, dress and music were published prior to the Conference. The coordinating ecclesia and the Conference Main Committee believes such statements will assist in ensuring a spiritually positive experience for us all.

Fellowship

The basis of fellowship for Brisbane 2010 is as agreed by Australian ecclesias.

That is: “the 1958 Unity Basis as expressed in pages 13 - 15 of the Unity Book without addition or further explanation”.

Other Matters

While most issues relating to doctrine and behaviour are addressed by the above statement there are other areas that the Conference Main Committee believes would be useful to comment on.

Presenters

Brothers will be invited to provide exposition on Scriptural matters, to offer prayers and read aloud from Scripture to audiences of brothers and sisters.

Sisters will be invited to give presentations on Scriptural subjects to audiences of sisters only.

Brothers and sisters may be invited to present material on matters impacting on individuals and families such as substance and other forms of abuse, education of children, depression etc. This will be to audiences of brothers and sisters.

Dress

As a wide diversity of standards of dress applies within the Christadelphian community, brothers, sisters and young people are asked to thoughtfully consider their choice of clothing to ensure it does not distract others from worship.

Sisters are asked to wear a head covering at the Memorial Meeting.

Music

On most occasions, hymns will be chosen from the current Christadelphian Hymn Book. Hymns, voluntaries, musical presentations etc., may also be chosen from other sources if the music and words are deemed suitable.
